Richard P. Sobek, 1948... In more than four decades of professional career years, he advanced from a free lancer to a recognized and accomplished Commercial, Graphic and Fine Artist.
He worked as a professional; Illustrator/Advertising Artist/Technical Illustrator/Graphic Artist/Photographer/Computer Graphics/Liturgical Artist and Draftsman.
He worked in various professional artistic positions for the ; Federal Government, ("Federal Bureau of Investigation," HQ, Washington, D.C., assigned to the "Watergate" among other high profile cases,) Department of Defense, ("Office of Naval Research," Arlington, VA., and "Naval Training Center," Chicago, IL.) while in the Military, ("Defense Intelligence Agency/Defense Intelligence School,") Washington, D.C.), also, Fortune 500 companies/Newspapers and small businesses working in Colorado, New York City/Manhattan, Chicago, Virginia, Maryland and Pennsylvania.
He is an Honorably Discharged Veteran from both the Vietnam Era and volunteer Reserves and utilized the GI Bill to further his education. He created Art works for; Scientists/Educators/Government and Civilian Officials/Law Enforcement/Attorneys/Researchers/Engineers/Instructors/Writers and Editors. He was included in active file of Artists with NASA, to fly aboard a space shuttle in 1985 as a "civilian observer." He has received several letters of commendations for his high quality artistic work and contributions from the Government, Military, Private Industries and Educational Institutions (see References.)
His Fine Art works, (see Exhibits and Review and References) have received National and International recognition, awards and rave reviews. He had several solo-shows and group shows and many of his works are in private collections. He continues creating a variety of Fine Art works from realism to digital to one-of-a-kind pieces of a unique Art forms he created plus, high quality digital photographs, some of which he donates some to a Veteran's Hospital in Pittsburgh.
His Art education started during his elementary school years when his artistic ability and interest in Art was recognized and was selected by his educators to attend the "Tam-o-Shanters" Fine Art class for gifted children, at Carnegie Institute (now Carnegie Mellon) Pittsburgh, PA. later in life he graduated from The Art Institute of Pittsburgh, 1968, with Diplomas in "Advertising Illustration" and "Advanced Advertising Illustration." To pay for his art education and continued education he worked in a foundry he also worked as a steel mill laborer, dock worker, various sales positions, cab driver, security guard, chauffeur and substitute teacher.
Aside from his Art, he participated as a; marathon and track runner, swim team, certified swim teacher and lifeguard, martial art instructor and his last endeavor, trying out for a professional football league, with the USFL, Pittsburgh "Maulers," as a "walk-on," special team, punter position.
